A broken turret was hanging by some power connections outside the dusty SRV's canopy, occasionally hitting the reinforced glass as the six wheeled vehicle jumped up and down little hills of the rocky surface, annoying the hell out of the knight sitting in the pilot seat. After tumbling several hundred meters in the surface craft, the damage to the vehicle was severe and the turret had gotten the worst of it. Various metal containers rattled in the storage compartment in the back, full with radioactive materials, rare metals and transition metals. ''At least I'm done on this god forsaken rock'' Cahn thought, finding some respite in that thought. ''Time to head home.'' Now seing his old ASP, his only ticket back home in the horizon, he gave maximum power to engines and boosting the vertical thrusters, he hurried back to his ship. As he approached, the SRV recognized the ship. Turret Stowing message appeared. He heard the electric sounds of the turret controls above the cockpit, unsuccessfully trying to stow the turret, which was now dragging on some cables behind the SRV. A red Error message soon appeared on the right panel; ''Turret Malfunction''. Commander Cahn sighed, ''No shit...''
The weary hull of his ASP Explorer ''Six Wheeler'' rattled as it took off and boosted vertically. Shortly afterward Cahn started the Frame Shift Drive and engines humming, the ship rose ever upwards toward the sytem's main sun. He took one last glance towards the meteor craters on the planet surface. He wasnt going to miss that place. Rattling of the hull eased as the ship left the gravity of the small planet and Frame Shift Drive accelerated. The old ASP's worn out cockpit and controls buttons did not seem to bother the knight. ''Set course for Baal System.'' he said to the autopilot as he browsed the collection of ancient classical music stored in the ships hard drives. Navigation AI's audio cue was heard as it calculated the route and soon the ship turned towards the jump direction. By the time ''Six Wheeler'' arrived at the home system of The White Templars and the autopilot disengaged itself, Cahn had long fallen asleep with his headphones on. The canopy automatically dimmed the light of the bright star but flashing internal lights and overheating controls of the ship woke the exhausted Commander him from his slumber. Slightly panicking, he quickly regained controls and he managed the steer the ship away from the star in time. He proceeded to cruise towards Stromgren Station as he contacted dispatch and entered the security passcode.
Moments later, a familiar voice transmission came through the panels: ''White Templar dispatch here. Please identify yourself and state your intention.''
''This is CMDR Cahn, returning from interstellar survey. Requesting permission to land.''
''Greetings sir'' the operator responded. ''Permission granted. That rusty ship still running eh? How did the survey go?''
''You wont believe what I've got here, sir.'' Cahn chuckled. ''Enough Vanadium and Arsenic to get me going for weeks...''
Cahn heard some chuckling and chatter coming from dispatch side. ''Welcome back Commander.''
